Despite good results in Laura’s last two key competitions, Laura has failed to meet the required Triple Jump standard to qualify for the European Under-23 Championships to be held at Ostrava in the Czech Republic 14-17 July.
Although she has exceeded the 12.95m the European competition demands, she has not met the tougher UK Athletics minimum standard of 13.75m this year, despite being able to jump the distance, as she did in Canada last year at the World Youth Championships.
At the Bedford International Games on 12th June Laura came third with a jump of 13.29m and she won her next triple jump at the UK Athletics Women’s League event in Edinburgh, with a jump of 13.22m.
Laura’s coach, Glenys Morton, spoke about her performance, “Laura has had a run of bad luck with timing issues and no-jumps, which have been reflected in the distances recorded in recent competitions. She has certainly jumped really well, so we’re concentrating on bringing everything together”.
Next competition is the England Athletics Senior Track and Field Championships in Bedford on July 16th and 17th. Following that, Laura will be competing at the end of July at the Aviva UK Trials and Championships being held at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham.
We all wish her better luck!
