Eden has thrown a new personal best (PB) of 59.72m in the Discus; a distance which also meets the International Association of Athletics Federation’s B qualification standard for the World Championships and Olympics.
Competing at the UKA McCain JumpsFest & ThrowsFest event at the Barnett Copthall Stadium on Sunday 10th, Eden’s throw placed her second but was good enough to exceed the B standard distance of 59.50m. This means that she is eligible for selection to the World Championships later this year and the London 2012 Olympics next year.
In the same competition Eden celebrated further success, winning the Shot Put with a throw of 16.07m. Not all was good news, as she felt she could have done more; an asthma attack brought on from a cold meant she retired early, missing out on further throws.
However, Eden is building well on her performance. Last weekend saw her compete in Edinburgh at the UKA Women’s League competition with her club Birchfield Harriers, which saw her gain gold in the Discuss with 53.43m and silver in the Shot Put with 15.81m. The competition is a premier league event with only the best UK clubs taking part.
With a view to improving her performance even further, Eden will be gleaning tips when she meets his week with current Olympic Champion Stephanie Brown-Trafton of the USA, who won gold with a throw of 64.74m at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
