Inspiring young windsurfers

Jul 4, 09:58 AM | Athlete: Izzy Hamilton

Izzy spent a day teaching Windsurfing to school children from Devon, as part of Sport England’s Sportivate scheme.

Sportivate is all about getting young people to be more active and try new sports; funded by the National Lottery it will give 14-25 year olds the chance of six weeks coaching in the sport of their choice. Izzy joined the launch with a taster day at Roadford Lake in west Devon, which is where Izzy first learnt to sail and windsurf.

Despite enjoying the day, Izzy ended up with a swollen ankle, partially due to a topple off the windsurfing simulator! Thankfully, she was due a week off training and after the all-clear from her physio, she is back on the water training in Weymouth.

Exeter University recently recognized Izzy’s achievements and named her its Sportswoman of the Year. Izzy is supported via the university’s Sports Scholarship Scheme with physiotherapy, strength and conditioning training in the university’s gym and nutrition guidance.
