David has had an excellent start to the World Cup series, with a gold medal in Slovenia.
Absolutely elated, the Samworth Sporting Star had this to say, “It was a fantastic result: Such a great race for me.
“It was the first World Cup of the year in Tacen, Ljubljana in Slovenia. In C1 I had a great qualification, putting in the second best result on both runs. I then had another great run in the semi-final to go through to the final in third place!
“The crowd in Tacen is always amazing and the finals were so exciting with such a great atmosphere. I was confident I could put a good performance in the final and the whole run went well. I nailed the hard move at the top of the course and then held the rest of the run together really well. I crossed the line and went into first place”!
But with more competitors still to race, David had to wait for the outcome:
“As I’d been third ranked going into the finals, I knew I had a medal, but just had to wait to see what colour. The last two competitors came down and both went behind me. I had won GOLD!!! It was a great day for me, my parents had come out specially to watch and it was amazing to stand on the podium and hear the national anthem”.
