Laura has recently taken part in three athletic competitions and had the opportunity to visit the newly completed London Olympic Stadium.
Invited down to London to a meeting in preparation for the World Championships and London 2012, part of the visit included a trip to the London 2012 athletics venue. Asked what it was like, Laura said, “absolutely amazing, I can’t believe how many people it will hold. It makes me really want to go and compete there.”
Although the stadium is complete the actual track, known as Mondo track, will not be installed until later in the year. Laura is now concentrating her triple jump training on Mondo track, as she has discovered it effects the outcome of her performance. Explaining, she said, “I haven’t had very good run ups at two of my recent competitions and I’ve struggled to find the board so I’ve had a few no jumps. I realised it is down to the surface of the track; Mondo tracks are a bit harder, not so springy and not what I’m used to.”
Laura came third at both the Loughborough International on the 22nd of May and the inter county at Bedford on the 30th May, with jumps of 12.92m and 13.00m respectfully. However, she was pleased with a jump back to winning form of 13.45m at last weekend’s Women’s league competition where she was competing for Birchfield Harriers. This weekend she will be competing at the McCain Bedford International.
