Hat trick at County Championships

May 19, 08:56 AM | Athlete: Laura Samuel

Easing herself into what will be a busy summer of competitions; Laura has set off in the right direction and won all three of her events at the recent Leicester County Championships.

Taking part on Sunday with 5.83m in long jump, 12.2 seconds in the 100m sprint and a good result of 13.38m in her own discipline of triple jump, Laura was very pleased to come first in all three. She said, “Although, it was only county level, it was good practice and it was fun to compete with club mates from Leicester”.

She went on to say, “it feels like I have been training for a long time and I’m glad to finally get back into competitions. Over the winter I concentrated on weights to build my strength, but I have been reducing them and concentrating jumping, sprinting and on speed work”.

Laura is looking forward to the next competition, the Loughborough International at the weekend, where she is competing just at triple jump and hopes to jump around the 13.7m mark. After this she and all the other elite athletes in Team GB are meeting with the head of UK Athletics at the beginning of June.
