A delighted David has secured Team GBR places in both the C1 and C2 slalom canoe classes at the UK Championships.
The hugely important selection races took place at the beginning of May; not only did David win in the single C1 class, but he and doubles partner Richard Hounslow easily beat off the competition to be placed first in the C2 class as well.
David said, “there was huge pressure to do well, I could have lost my whole career had it not gone well. I am now eligible to compete for Olympic 2012 selection in both classes”.
Training is continuing at Lee Valley and David went on to admit, “it’s a very tough course, there’s a lot to learn and it’s easy to make mistakes. We’re already seeing some of the foreign guys come over to train on the water”.
Not all David’s training has been on home ground of late; he has not long returned from Bratislava in Slovakia, where the World Championships will take place later in the year. He now has a couple of very intensive weeks training, before flying out to Spain for the second biggest race of the year, the European Championships 9th to 12th June.
