Back in the UK, David has competed at a British Invitational event at the new Olympic venue at Lee Valley White Water Centre on 20th March, coming home in first place in C2 and second place in C1.

Commenting on the race, the first one at the venue, David said, “I finished a disappointing 2nd place in the C1 by a small margin of 0.12 seconds: I picked up a two second penalty, which cost me the first place. However, Richard (Hounslow) and I managed to comfortably take the win in C2 by a 5 seconds lead”.

After a good training camp in Australia, David went on to say, “It has been nice to be back home and paddling at the Lee Valley course, I was pretty tired by the end of training in Sydney and ready for a change of scene. It was really nice to get home. I had a couple of days off from training, when I got back, to recover and then the first week’s training wasn’t too strenuous.

“Since then it’s been quite hectic. The course here seems very big, with pushy white water compared to the course we were training on out in Australia. The mornings have been cold, but the afternoons have been sunny and really pleasant to be out on the water. It’s also good to be back in the GB Team training environment here and working with our coaches on a daily basis”.
