First World Tour event of 2011

Mar 29, 12:04 PM | Athlete: Izzy Hamilton

Izzy is set to fly to Palma on the Spanish island of Majorca for the Princess Sofia Regatta. On landing, she will have time for a couple of days training before the regatta takes place on 2nd to 9th April; this will be her first World Tour Event of the year.

No doubt looking forward to plenty of windy sailing conditions and warm weather, Izzy will be building on the experience of warm weather training of the last few weeks. She has only recently returned from a week’s Olympic Development Squad training, also based at Palma, where 25 knot (or nearly 29mph) winds and a choppy sea made for exciting conditions.

Prior to this Izzy was back on home ground and competing in a National Ranker race at Weymouth (in what she described as “arctic” conditions) and finding time to complete coursework for her university studies. However, she hasn’t had much time for lectures as this was preceded with a competition at the end of February in Cadiz, Spain. Talking about the event, the Andalusian Olympic Week Carnival Trophy on 23rd to 28th Feb, Izzy said, “I had a fantastic week in Cadiz and I finished 9th Woman overall; which I was really happy with. It was fantastic to finish 3rd in one of the races and it was good to know, that after winter training, I am competitive with some world-class women in good winds and I am progressing in the lighter winds!”
