Taking time out from university, Izzy travelled to Callington to visit Ginsters and Westward Labs.
Starting the day at Ginsters, Izzy took the opportunity to give her own presentation with a round up of her achievements and an insight to RSX windsurfing. She was then taken on a tour of the Samworth Academy at Ginsters before heading over the road to visit Westward Laboratories.
Enjoying the visit, she said, “The visit to Ginsters was fantastic! I thought the facilities where amazing; I looked around the gym and education rooms. I think having that facility so close and easy to use is an amazing opportunity for staff”.
Westward Laboratories provided some familiar ground, as she admitted, “Looking around the labs was interesting and I think I understood some of it from my A Level Biology, but it was cool to see the theory in real life – even if it was salmonella and other deadly diseases on the plates around me”!
Finally, Izzy was shown around the manufacturing facility at Ginsters to see how the pasties and slices are made, baked and packed. Although impressed by the bakery and laboratory facilities, her overriding impression was that of the staff and she had this to say, “The friendliness of the staff was incredible, there was a family atmosphere and everyone seemed to be enjoying the work they were doing.”
Izzy is now in Cadiz, Spain, taking on some warm weather training with the Olympic Development Squad, which will include competing in the Cadiz regatta.
