A jubilant Eden has triumphed in her first competition of 2011 and won the shot put event at the McCain City Challenge at the weekend.
This will certainly help dispel the doubts she had before the weekend, talking before the competition she told Samworth Brothers, “I am a little nervous, after being unable to compete in 2010 because of injury it will be testing, but I’m very excited and looking forward to the event”.
The nerves held out and Eden won the competition with a throw of 15.72m, not bad considering it’s the beginning of the season and not so far behind her personal best of 16.53m which was set in 2009 and still ranks her top of the UK’s women shot put.
She will be especially pleased that this indicates all the training she has been doing of late is obviously on the right track. In the lead up to the City Challenge she had been concentrating on improving her throwing technique to bring her up to speed. Talking about it she said, “I did a session last Sunday and it was shocking, I seemed to have forgotten how to do everything, it was a bit of a reality check. I have since done several sessions and thankfully its all flooding back, but I feel quite raw and I will be working hard to refine my technique.”
Eden has been fitting in the intensive shot put sessions around her usual training regime which includes track training with sprints and plyometrics, gym work on the cross trainers, weights and including core stability and circuit classes. Eden was very pleased to report that her weight training is going well and she has recently achieved a personal best of 75kg with a snatch lift.
