Looking ahead to the coming season, Laura has got her first competition under her belt, with mixed results.

Taking place indoors at the Loughborough Open on the 22nd of January, competing in the long jump and the 60m sprint.

Explaining why she chose these two events and not triple jump, Laura explained, “I entered the event to get a feel of competitions again and to enjoy myself; which I did! On the whole I felt the competition went well”.

However, even for a first competition Laura wasn’t too pleased with her long jump performance as she only jumped 5.49m. She went on to say, “In my long jump I jumped against Jessica Ennis (world heptathalon champion), so it was quite an experience to be competing against one of the world’s best athletes.”

Doing better in the 60m sprint, Laura recorded a time of 7.87 seconds and with her personal best at 7.82 seconds, she was very pleased to be on track with her sprinting performance.

The next event will be the McCain City Challenge on February 6th which Laura is training hard for, she commented, “I’m working more on speed and technique, rather than strength at the moment and I will drop that right down before the City Challenge. I’m really looking forward to the event, its fun and lively, with lots of music and interviewing taking place and this year I will be competing in the Birmingham team with Eden Francis, so it will be very enjoyable.”
