A delighted Laura is enjoying a new job as Multisport Assistant Coach which is the perfect fit with her commitments to her training and college work.
“I’m loving it”, she explained. “I’m based at Braunstone Grove, we’re getting kids off the streets and teaching them sports like football, something they can be really positive about. We also have schools visit us to use the facilities and they have their PE lessons with us, so it’s very varied.”
“I’ve also got the opportunity to gain further qualifications and I am enrolled on three courses which when I’ve passed I will hold certificates for Gym Instructor, Lifeguarding and Sports Leader at Work.”
“I only need to attend college twice a week now, so I do that on a day-release basis from work. I’m doing OK and I am working hard to bring my lower grades up from passes to merits or better still distinctions.”
Ideally for Laura, her job also allows her time to keep up with her training and she is still able to fit in her usual two morning sessions and three afternoon sessions each week, as well as training on Saturdays. The snow and cold weather hasn’t made it easy though; the Leicester Coritanians Saffron Lane track was closed for two days last week because of the snow, but Laura trained on Saturday and Sunday to make up missed time. She said, “Sunday was hard work, I attended the UK Athletics Awards ceremony in Loughborough on Saturday, which was a late night and although I didn’t win I was pleased to be nominated for best Junior Athlete.”
