After the bitter decision not to attend the Commonwealth Games in Delhi (CWG) Eden has rethought her training priorities and is looking to build on her fitness for next season. She told Samworth Brothers what this will entail.
“With not going to the CWG, after one week off, I am now in winter training, phase one which lasts for four weeks. This means that, while I will still be doing some throwing, emphasis will be on fitness. This includes aqua work, circuits, heavy weights, cardiovascular work i.e 15minute+ runs, fartlek training, cross trainer work and cycling. After having my last season hampered with injury, this will be a vital part of my training. I am taking advice from psychologists and nutritionists, so I leave no stone unturned, in my preparation for the future. Phase two will be harder and more strength based.”
“Having pulled out of the CWG, I still believe that I have made the right decision. Whilst I feel sad at not being in Delhi representing my country I have my future to think of. It would have been amazing to compete in my first senior CWG. Having had my first taste of a multi-sport Games in 2004 in Australia at the Commonwealth Youth Games, competing in Delhi was my target for 2010.”
Talking about the problems associated with the Games in Delhi and the latest work required on the condition of the track, Eden went on to say, “I feel a sense of reflief that this is not something I have to contend with… I now have the opportunity to prepare for next season with the World Championships in 2011.”
