C2 Win at Cardiff

The Cardiff Bay Premier Slalom event on 11th July saw David’s first win in the men’s double slalom canoe (C2) and the first time at a premier division national ranking race in the C2 class.

Although he paddled the fastest time in the C1 (single slalom canoe) a couple of touches on the gates meant penalty points dropped him to fourth place overall. A few days training in Nottingham were then followed by a trip to Bratislava for a week’s training.

Moving from Bratislava to Ljubljana in Slovenia on the 25th, David is now in serious training for the rescheduled European Canoe Slalom Championships, which were cancelled in June due to severe flooding and now due to take place on the 13th to 15th of August back in Bratislava. The Cunovo course is on the River Danube, but purpose built and regularly hosts international competitions. Competing again in C1 and C2 classes, we’ll find out how David gets on in the next update.
