Central to all stages of the Samworth Brothers Charity Challenge will be the event base at Coniston Sports & Social Club. Both routes, Tough and Super Tough levels, will take full advantage of the stunning scenery around Coniston, including Coniston Water. To succeed you’ll need to navigate your way around. The main differences between the two routes are increased distances and height gains, as detailed below.
Tough route
This route requires a high level of fitness. A good 13 week training programme prior to the event should ensure you are capable of completing it. See website for training details.
Walk is 14km long with a height gain of 1056m
Canoe section is 11km long
Bike route is 30km long with a height gain of 500m
Super Tough route
This route requires a higher level of fitness and stamina and in adverse weather could be extremely physically demanding. The mountain section is considerably longer than the tough level and navigation skills will be critical.
Walk is longer at 20km rising to 1300m height gain
Canoe section is 13.5km
Bike route is 35km long with a height gain of 500m
Abseil
Part of both TOUGH and SUPER TOUGH routes
The abseil is run as a team event, i.e. we have four ropes and the team abseil on a rope each at the same time. Any team member who doesn’t want to abseil may sit it out, but this will incur a 15 minute time penalty for the team. (15 minutes per team member).
