£340,000 raised for charity
22 June 09 - Emma MussonAn amazing total of £340,000 was raised for charity following the success of the second Samworth Brothers Charity Challenge. The amount smashed the £260,000 raised at the first challenge in 2007 – a heartfelt thank you to all our sponsors, the teams and everyone who contributed to make this possible.
Full details of the results are now published on the Results pages and coming soon will be a link to all the official photographs.

15 June 09 - Emma MussonThere are a number of items of lost property from both the 6th and 13th of June. Please contact Challenge Base if you are missing a piece of kit.
Abseil - changes
7 April 09 - Emma MussonFrom Lindsey Pownall
Abseil rules and scoring have been amended – please re-read relevent sections on website. The Changes are necessary owing to the number of teams signed up for the event; we cannot afford to let people do the abseil more than once and hence the new penalty system.
Please ensure you regularly check all the website pages for updated information.
Message from Lindsey Pownall
20 March 09 - Emma MussonWith 11 weeks to go until the first challenge event, I thought this would be a good time to open up communications.
First of all, just to say what a fantastic response there has been to the challenge. We have 81 teams entered into the 2009 challenge across the two weekends and even more remarkable, is that there are double the numbers of lunatics out there who have volunteered to do Super Tough. In 2007 we only ran it on one week and this year eight teams are competing for this trophy each weekend.
Now, if there is anyone else out there who wants to enter a team it is not too late. I think I can accommodate three more teams on either weekend and it takes ten weeks to train to optimum fitness. If you know of anyone who may be interested get them to contact the team at Challenge Base.
This year there will be prizes for the second and third place in the TOUGH CATEGORY. Prizes, as usual, will be cheques made out to the charity of your choice.
The event is all about raising money for charity and I appreciate that things are difficult in the economy at the moment, but that means for charities it is tougher still. All your support will be so critical for the charities of your choice.
Your training for the event should have started by now. Please speak to Jason at Distant Horizons if you need any advice on suitable training plans.
With regard to clothing for the event, please note the following is deemed essential and must be with you at all times.
- Full set of quality waterproofs for all sections.
- Walking boots / excellent quality approach shoes for the mountain section.
- Outdoor quality clothing, i.e. trousers or shorts. PLEASE NOTE ABSOLUTELY NO JEANS
Obviously, other equipment is recommended, but in this letter today I just wanted to draw your attention to the critical equipment, without which you will not be able to compete.
We will be sending out details of your accommodation in the next few weeks. As usual, it will be, where possible, two people sharing a twin bedded room. We would appreciate your support in following the payment guidelines, as we will have pre-paid your accommodation so that you are then able to pay us direct.
If you have any queries with regard to anything to do with the challenge, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
