Clothing & Equipment Recommendations |

| In conjunction with Blacks, the UK's leading outdoor retailer we have secured a 20% discount for all participants on the Samworth Brothers Charity Challenge. In order to receive this discount each team will be sent a 20% discount voucher via Emma Musson at Bradgate. The voucher can be used at any Blacks shop in the UK and it is worth getting together as a team and deciding what you need - there is only one voucher per team of 4 competitors!! |
| The event in June will hopefully be run during a period of nice stable weather but that said the Lake District can be wet and windy on any day of the year so making a decision on the most appropriate clothing to wear is difficult to make. We have listed below our recommendations of the type of clothing and footwear that is best suited to the activities that will be encountered during the event. |
Mountain Section: You will be travelling as a team over mountainous terrain which includes man-made gravel paths to negotiating rock pinnacles on a ridge where some scrambling will be required. There will also be a short section where you will be required to travel along a metalled road. The ground underfoot should you choose the best route between your required check points on the mountains will avoid any boggy sections! We would suggest the following footwear and clothing as a required minimum. The lighter the better!!
|
| Canoe Section: Distant Horizons provide all safety equipment. No specialist clothing other than using your waterproofs if required whilst paddling your canoe rafts. A sun hat and sunglasses may possibly be useful if it is sunny on the day as the sun reflection whilst being on the water can be immense. |
| Bike Section: We will be providing mountain bikes on the day and the make is Specialized with the model being 'Hardrocks'. Helmets are essential and these will be provided. If you wish you may bring your own mountain bike and helmet for the event. |
| Other Items - Hydration Systems |
| Taking on liquid during the event is vital to you staying hydrated and performing to the best of your physical ability. Rather than stopping on a regular basis to take a drink from a conventional bottle there are a number of products on the market where all you need to do is 'suck' through a flexible tube which has a little on/off tap and is connected to a bag which you pack in your rucksack. Blacks stock a good range of these products - click here |
