Frequently Asked Questions

Where is the event being held?
The event is being held in the Lake District in Cumbria on the Saturday 30th June 2007, based in Glenridding and Patterdale which are located on the southern end of Ullswater (Lake) and the surrounding mountains will be used for the activity sections during the event.

What activities are involved?
There are 3 activity sections that need to be completed as a team at both levels and these include a canoe section on Ullswater, a mountain section on foot over the Helvellyn range and a bike section to the north of Glenridding.

Why are their two levels?
The two levels are Tough and Super Tough.  The choice of level is a team decision which is made as you register your team’s interest in participating for the event.  Once you have committed to the level you are aiming for you CANNOT change your mind and go from TOUGH to SUPER TOUGH but you can, if you decide two weeks before the Challenge, go from SUPER TOUGH to TOUGH.  The number of teams we envisage doing the SUPER TOUGH level is approx. 6/7.

How do the activities work within the team?
Every team member does all three activities, i.e. canoeing, mountain section and the cycling.  This is a team event and you remain together as a team throughout the course.

Where will we stay on the Friday and Saturday night?
We have reserved all the available accommodation in the area and rooms will be allocated to each team nearer the event.  Your team co-ordinator will receive confirmation of the name of your hotel/guest house/pub and directions for them to communicate to all members of the team.
We intend to allocate two twin bedded rooms to each team and we will endeavour to accommodate requests outside of that.  All accommodation must be paid for by teams on departure.  We will confirm room rates when we allocate your accommodation.
Any queries on accommodation should go to Wendy Levell on:
  0116 232 4300 or email Wendy Levell

Can my team have a sponsorship form?
All teams need to contact their chosen charity, notify them that they are raising money and obtain their official sponsorship forms. After submission at the Samworth Brothers Charity Challenge event, the sponsorship forms will need to be forwarded to the charity, along with the funds collected. The charity will then be able to benefit by claiming additional funds through the Gift Aid scheme.

My team has a reserve member; can they attend on the day of the event?
The challenge event and evening dinner is only open to the four competing members from each team.
